Description
Batch to Batch Analysis of Feed. A new therapeutic feed was developed for use in the management of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in children in low and middle income settings. The feed was developed to be producible from locally available ingredients, contain limited disaccharides and include sufficient resistant starch to support gut microbial fermentation. These changes were theorized to reduce incidence of disaccharide-induced diarrhoea, and support gut function which have been shown to be disrupted in SAM. The feed has gone on to be evaluated by comparison to current standard feeds in a phase II clinical trial, MIMBLE 2.0 (https://doi.org/10.12688/wellcomeopenres.14706.1). The outcome of microbiological and other safety testing of the final product are summarized in this supplemental file to demonstrate the safety of the production process. Of a total of 5 batches of 500 cans of the feed, 5 from each batch were tested to ensure sterility and compliance with food safety regulations.
