Description

The phenol eugenol (0.86 g) was refluxed at 82 oC with 4-trifluoromethylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid (1.0350 g) in the presence of EDC.HCl (1.25 g, 6.5 mmol) and DMAP (0.0064 g, 0.5 mmol) as a catalyst with 30 mL acetonitrile as a solvent to form the ester 4-allyl-2-methoxyphenyl 4-(triflouromethyl)cyclohexane-1-carboxylate. The remaining hexane was removed through rotary evaporation at 40 oC to leave a colourless liquid (0.546 g, 32.96%) which solidified when brought to room temperature. The IR and proton NMR spectra were recorded.
